Good night for Oshawa at PRAC juried show
Betty was awarded one of the six major prizes in the PineRidge Arts Council’s 15th Annual Juried Art Exhibition.
McGowan’s painting, Wave, is a non-objective piece. And while the wave seems natural and spontaneous, McGowan said there was a lot of preparation involved: she made 118, 5 x 7 sketches to create an “interesting shape. “For me it was more of a process of finding the swoop of the stroke,” she says.

Betty's journey of becoming an accomplished artist was featured in the Durham Region local newspaper on January 15th.
"Many artists have spouses who don't "get" what they do. But for the McGowans, that's not a problem at all. They fundamentally understand each other as life partners and as a pair of highly engaged creative individuals."
